Thanks for the super web site!!! I was born and raised in Hazard and
my Mom and Dad, Bess and Joe Goodlette still live there. My
grandmother, Pauline Goldsmith just died last July at the age of 96.
She was a great source of information about Hazard and Perry County
and could tell stories up until her death. My husband was transferred
a year ago and we had to leave Hazard. I really miss it and all my
friends so if anyone on this site knows me please drop me a line.
Again, thanks for a great site and keep up the good work!!!

I really like your web page. I called Perry county home until 1959.
we left because the buckhorn lake was formed and took our home. My
family moved to Madison county where I still live. I always enjoy

This is a wonderful web site! It is great to be able to see a piece
of home when I'm a thousand miles away. Hello to every one back home!
(HHS, class of 1993) I've spent several days browsing the site and
the guest book, and found pictures of relatives, (Bud Luttrell on
page 2 of the 50's & 60's), and references to people I've known all
my life. It was great fun to see pictures of friends of my
grandparents, Robert (Duffy) & Lorene Duff like Jay Lasslo from
"their day". To those who created this page, keep up the good work!

I was born in Harlan CO. second child of Elmer and Virgie Whitehead.
I have visited Hazard many times, and just wanted to say hello to
everyone. I now live and work in Irving, TX. the home of the Dallas
Cowboys. Irving is located between Ft. Worth and Dallas and is in
Dallas county. I like it here but it is not as pretty as Kentucky. I
must say I do enjoy the winters here a few days of cold weather and
then spring again. I loved your web site keep up the good work.

I lived in Hazard for about a year back in the late 1970's. Upon
searching your site, I have recognized several names of my former
classmates (that would be from Ms. Farler's 2nd grade class at RG
Eversole Elementary). Does anyone remember the little girl with long
blond hair that moved to South Carolina at the end of the school
year? Just curious. Enjoyed visiting your website.

What a pleasure it has been perusing the Hazard website. My parents
grew up there and my very earliest memories are from there. We lived
in the house on the left at the top of Poplar street where it dead-
ends at Jordan. Long ago and far away. I can hardly wait to show this
to my mother.

I was born in Bulan - but not in a hospital, I was born in a house
in 1952 that is still standing! I visited there in 96 & again in
1997. My grandparents James & Margaret Spurlock are buried in Hazard.
I was amazed when I visited there in 1996, the "downtown" area had
not changed much since I was last there in 1966. However, the
outskirts of the city had changed a lot. My dad's father was James
Patrick- he owned a general store in Tribbey when I was growing up.
Anybody out there any kin?? Love this web site!!

I really enjoyed this web site and reading the guest book. I am the
great-great-granddaughter of R.W. Combs from which the school there
in Hazard is named. My great-grandmother Maude Combs was the daughter
of Robert William (Bob) Combs. She married William Combs and from
their union came my grandfather Elvin Combs. Elvin Combs married
Bette Usher(of Tonawanda, New York)and from their union came my
father Jerry Ray Combs and his twin Larry Lloyd Combs along with one
more brother and two sisters. My father married Pamela Faye Tillery
and along comes me, Tracy Jane Combs Collins and two younger
brothers. I would like to know more about my family. Anyone having
information on this particular family please E-mail me. I know R.W.
Combs had 21 children by 3 different wifes and his parents were Burix
and Annie Combs but I would like to know more. I am doing geneolgy
and I'm trying to get as much information as possible so I can pass
it on to my two little boys.

I have recently visited the area for the first time and I have to
say that I was very impressed! It was not the kind of place I was
expecting. My perception was that it would be very remote ... maybe
even a bit backward. I soon learned ... the picture I had painted was
VERY inaccurate. This has been the best vacation that I've had in a
long time! I think the area is absolutely beautiful! The people that
I've met in the three weeks I've been here will hold a special place
in my thoughts for a very long time to come. I'd like to extend a
very heart-felt thank you to the following people: Scott and Donna,
the staff at Kentucky Mountain Insurance, the Brashear family, and
Tim ... Thank you so much for all you have done for me during my time
here. All of you have made the trip a very nice experience for me,
and you shall not be forgotten. I shall return!

My family is from Hardburly. My father, Donald Brooks, was born and
raised there. His parents were Sylvia and Ellen Brooks. I have many
fond memories of riding the bus to Town (Hazard) and eating at Don's
with my cousins Sandy and Glen Brooks. Also enjoyed many fun times
with Cheeter and Rick Ritchie playing the spoons and guitars on our
grandparents porches. I am truly thankful for my Kentucky heritage.
Thanks!

Hey guys, I've never been around here before but I recently saw an
article on the UVA website
http://wsrv.clas.virginia.edu/~rjh9u/blkysc82.htm which was about the
blue people of Kentucky. Very interesting stuff. I just thought that
this would solve any rumors or "old wives tale" stories that are
considered to be untrue. Enjoy the article :)

I'm helping a friend in Italy find descendants of his uncle who was
known to have lived in HARDBURLY, KY in 1921. His name was Vincent
BERTI. He later moved to West Virginia. It's my understanding that
there were a number of Italian immigrants working in the mines in
Kentucky and West Virginia. Please email me with any information you
can provide. My friend assumes that his uncle has passed on and would
like to "put flowers on his grave." Many thanks in advance for your
help.
